Crookers at Webster Hall – October 26th, 2012 – New York, NY

The iconic Webster Hall has hosted decades of live music, with countless notable acts gracing the stage. Tonight would be no different as Italian sensation, Crookers ( aka Phra ) was set to perform an extended set filled with multi-genre dance tunes. Opening support for the show was provided by Fools Gold Records Alum Nick Catchdubs. The show was hosted by Girls&Boys, a well known NYC promotions company run by Alex English, who is also an internationally known DJ.

The venue was decorated with massive ghouls and goblins which added an eerie vibe to the cold night air.

Phra leans back to pause, just before the drop into “trillex”.

It didn’t take much convincing for me to take a shot of tequila with this babe.

“gun shots”

One thing I love about attending shows in NYC is that everyone, artists, staff, & patrons, seem to embrace the holiday and go the extra mile with their costumes. These two arguably had one of the best ideas of the night featuring Batman themed “Joker” and “Harley Quinn” costumes.

A-Trak Fool’s Gold Records House Party – October 21st, 2012 – Asbury Park, NJ

Jack Deezl and A-Trak chillin’ during the Fool’s Gold Records house party at Asbury Lanes.

A-Trak performed between bowling lanes, in front of a packed house at Asbury Lanes.

I arrived early and took some shots of the venue before the show. After being inside the place for a few minutes, one could not help but notice the place hadn’t been updated in decades, with the exception of local art pieces displayed throughout the perimeter of the venue and lanes. The crowd varied, but catered more to the hipster / punk scene on a regular basis.

This shot was taken outside in front of Asbury Lanes, and is an accurate representation of Asbury Park in general. A rough and rugged beach town, with a vintage vibe that survives year after year.

Ancient bowling balls and their battle scars; lined up and ready go.

Donnis; host for the evening.

Fool’s Gold Records Alum, Flosstradamus, perform their blend of trap infused hardstyle bangers. Several of these tunes are off their new “XO” EP, such as “Underground Anthem”, “Drak Knight”, among others. The “Trapstyle” sound is refreshing as well as addicting in many senses, especially when those deep, wonky bass lines.are layered with aggressive house synths.

Strike a Pose

Flosstradamus

Not gonna lie, I was impressed with the girls that came out for the evening.

Amping the crowd up during their set.

Several friends from the Philadelphia and surrounding areas also came up for the show. We all caught up and took a few shots at the bar.

Ever get hungry at a show, but are too close to the stage to leave? We got you covered…

Fans going wild as A-Trak took to the stage.

Packed house during A-Trak’s set at Asbury Lanes.

You could arguably wear a banana suit to every concert.

Showin’ off his skills, scratchin’ records at the Fool’s Gold House Party.

Crowd Surfing in a bowling alley, not an uncommon thing at this venue.

I’m always very impressed with A-Trak’s live performance as he flawlessly mixes in and out of his own tunes creating an original, hip hop heavy, electronic set. Tonight was no different as he showed off his mixing skills and played fan favorites.

As with most house parties, you don’t leave until all the beer’s gone. The night was a wild success and seemed to end quicker than it began. The crowd was exceptional, the atmosphere was perfect, and venue was honestly the closest thing you could get in a legit venue, that portrayed an intimate house party vibe.

City Bisco – October 5 / 6th, 2012 – Philadelphia, Pa

City Bisco is the Disco Biscuits first headlining, multi day festival in the city of brotherly love (Philadelphia). Other artists that would grace the stage over the two day stint at the Mann Center included A-Trak, Diplo, Paper Diamond, Ott, Aeroplane, Brothers Past, Cinnamon Chasers, and Wyllys to name a few.

“Triumph was the Underdog” ; Fans, who also considered themselves merchants, sold various types of paraphernalia ranging from collectable pins, clothing, and food, in the parking lots before and after the event each night.

The side stage was packed featuring artists such as Aeroplane, Ott, and Brothers Past. One thing I really enjoyed about the this stage was that it felt like you were in a normal festival setting, rather than just outside the city.

Some lovely ladies enjoying themselves before the Biscuits set.

New Bisco Merch flew off the shelves all weekend long.

Much like their staple festival “Camp Bisco”, City Bisco provided a plethora of quality DJs such as Paper Diamond, who had one of the best sets Saturday in my opinion.

The Biscuits spared no expense bringing in local legend Diplo to perform during their set break Friday, as well as support from A-Trak Saturday night. These are easily two of the most relevant producers / DJs in the electronic music scene and kept the crowd dancing for over an hour between each of the Biscuits sets.

“Express Yourself”

A-Trak Portrait

The Disco Biscuits perform in front of a massive crowd during City Bisco at the Mann Center in Philadelphia. I give these guys credit for being the first artists who really had me listening to electronic dance music. With their Trancefusion sound, they really left no genre untouched blending progressive, house, trance, drum and bass, along with dubstep into their jam-based improvisational sets over the past 10 years (that I’ve been listening to them).

Appropriately titled “Barber Shreds”

City Bisco’s production featured several large LED wall panels mounted behind the main stage, along with a heavy dose of floodlights and lasers.

In summary, The Disco Biscuits have remained one of my favorite artists over the past 10 years. I’ve traveled all across the United States seeing them play in a variety of venues (from small clubs to amphitheaters), totaling well over 200 shows. Their Trancefusion sound is just that, a constantly changing / evolving electronic force that has no limits as long as the crowd is still dancing.

City Bisco is a pleasant reminder; an added two day treat in the beginning of October, that brings back all those fond memories we had just a few months ago at Camp Bisco. Overall, I thought management couldn’t have chosen a better venue (within city limits) that could appropriately handle Biscuits scene, while encompassing a festival setting just outside the city.
